"JQJ213- Now With An Extra Cylinder!" (jqj213)

As you know, I LOVE my C30. I have a lot of things that I still want to do to it though: including Polestar Tune, new wheels and tires, add foglights, add cruise control, add a trip computer, and a few other things. But I was at the dealer earlier...and they have a 2013 R-Design.
Let me clarify. They have a 2013 Volvo C30 T5 R-Design with Polestar chip with less than 20,000 miles on it. The car is a CPO and has a 7 year 100K mile warranty. And, the dealer said it could be mine for right around $20,000.
Why might I be looking into this? I know I just got mine, but it is an 08 with more than twice the mileage and the finance company doesn’t like it very much.
Whereas the CPO is only 1.9%, mine is around 6%. The CPO also have every option I’ve been wanting to add including the $1300 tune, over $1000 in wheels and tires, fog lights, leather (which I can’t add), and a sunroof (also I can’t have).
So yes, it might sound insane to trade in, but it might actually make sense since the cost of upgrades I want is so high and are already in this car.
My payments should nearly stay the same and I won’t have to really pour much of anything into this car. Am I totally crazy? Probably. But does it make sense? What say you?

Do you have any equity in your current car?
Also would you be financing for a longer term?
Ah fuck it. Pull the trigger!

Hmmmm I’d say verify the payment amount. Also are you sure it’d stay close to the same? I mean it should as long as you’re not to far upside down on your loan. I’ve always had a thing for the C30 and I’d jump at the chance for that R-Design.

Realistically I got a really good deal on my car. Considering how mine would be the only private one for sale within 75 miles of me, I feel like I might have something kinda special. If I can at least break even it would make sense.

I would be willing to pay more monthly for a car with a warranty, but that’s just me. So as long as you aren’t outing yourself out of money, I’d go for it. Especially if this has cruise control.

“Payments stay the same” does not mean “spending the same amount of money.”
Pay for the car you’ve got. Maybe you throw all that money at it for upgrades, maybe you don’t.
If you really want to save some money maybe in a year or two look at refinancing the loan to a lower rate.

Are you upside down on your current loan? The way you’re putting it, it doesn’t sound like a bad idea at all.

Your young enough, payments will be the same, you'll like the car better and the warranty and lack of pouring money into (pita ask me how I know) projects. Do it, just don't regret it

Wait.. what? volvo really made those optional on an 08?? wtf...
also you only live but once, didn’t do the math or nothing but get the other car. sounds like it’s what you really want! hell I want it. I love the c30! shame ford made them neuter them here in the us.

How quickly could you get it sold? Do you think you could get approved with the current loan on your car still being open?
Reason I ask, you just don't know how long their car will be there. So let's say you put yours up for sale, and you sell it, but shortly after the car you want gets sold from under you?

How much trade in can you get for the current one? I’d personally go for it if it made economical sense.

The first 2 or 3 years (07, 08 and maybe 09) were part of this Volvo “builder” thing. They wanted every C30 to be built custom order by you. They offered a crazy choice of colors (18 iirc) and a whole bunch of options. Some have leather and nothing else. Some have cloth and auto wipers and bigger wheels, some have the R Design suspension....
It is near impossible to find one perfectly optioned out..
ironic is that my 00 V70R had all of those...

Mmmm, Polestar tune... Lovely, magical words.
That might beat out the immaculate one my local CarMax has tauntingly just outside the showroom door A

A showroom that, I note, housed a Miata Club and a FoST when I was in there, and has a Mazdaspeed3, WRX STI, Fiat 500 Abarth, CLA250, M3, and other choice metal right by the showroom door. It’s like walking through the doors into an automotive oasis!

You are pouring your heart, soul, and wallet into a C30!
But the car mentioned in the post is well-equipped. Go for it.

If there’s no financial downside (or just a small one) and it comes with CPO and warranty, I’d say go for it...even though it is a bit crazy...make that mostly crazy...in a good way, I think...

Those five spokes look fierce. I love Polestar blue, but that gray is pretty. If possible, I’d say get the new one.

Weve already tried. The big issue is that the car is an 08. By the end of the loan, its over 10 years old and no one wants to finance that. Credit scores or income arent even relevant when the car is older

Credit scores and income still matter. I financed my ‘05 Grand Cherokee in December 2014 for 48 months at 3.24% thanks to my income.
My original comment was because I assumed that in order to pay for this newer car, while your payments might stay the same, you’d be making more total number of payments.
Look at what your total spend will be over the course of the loan on your current car vs. what your total spend would be on the new one, not just your monthly cost.

Semi-related question: your C30 has the automatic, right? How is it? How does it shift in manual mode?

Yeah I have it and I use it quite often. At least for my year, its kinda slow. Like you have a good few seconds between your “shift” and the gear change.
I heard later models fixed that quite a bit though.
